Flu season is here and with that in mind, it is important to remember ways to stay healthy. The first line of defense is getting your flu shot. The vaccine is available at the Daniel S. Snow, M.D. Health Center (814) 455-7222, as well as Harborcreek Health Services (814) 464-0509 for patients all ages. You can set up an appointment by calling either location.

Flu-shotAn easy way to stay healthy and prevent the spread of germs throughout the year is by practicing proper hand-hygiene, or in other words, keeping your hands clean. Washing your hands with soap and water after contact with public spaces, sick people, and spending time outdoors is important. It is recommended that you wash your hands with soap and warm water while singing a song like Happy Birthday two times. You want to make sure you clean the tops of your hands, in between your fingers and under your fingernails. Keeping your hands away from your nose, eyes, and mouth is another way to prevent picking up germs.

Building up your immune system is another way to stay healthy. Eating a balanced diet, getting plenty of water to stay hydrated, and getting at least 8 hours of restful sleep a night can help ward off those nasty bugs too.
