Community Health Net Celebrates 40 Years of Care with Anniversary Luncheon
Guest speakers Dr. Edward Hennis and Curt Cardman to spotlight the importance of sports medicine for everyone.
Erie, PA – Community Health Net (CHN), the leading Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving the Lake Erie region, is proud to announce its 40th Anniversary Board of Directors’ Luncheon, taking place on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the Sheraton Erie Bayfront Hotel. This milestone event will highlight CHN’s essential role and commitment to compassionate, patient-centred healthcare while focusing on the importance of its Sports Medicine program under the theme: “Sports Medicine: More Than Just Sports.”
Featured speakers include Dr. Edward Hennis, Primary Care and Sports Medicine Physician at CHN, and Curt Cardman, MPT, Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Specialist with FYZICAL Therapy & Balance. Both will share insights on how sports medicine benefits not only athletes, but also older adults, workers, and families; namely, everyone who wants to stay active and healthy.
As the first FQHC in Western Pennsylvania to integrate sports medicine into primary care, Community Health Net is leading the way in making recovery, mobility, and preventive care more accessible. This pioneering step reflects the organization’s commitment to innovation, reflecting the health needs of the Lake Erie region.
“For 40 years, CHN has stood as a trusted healthcare provider in Erie,” said Craig Ulmer, CEO of Community Health Net. “This luncheon is a chance to show how sports medicine can impact the lives of everyone in our community – not just athletes.”
Sports Medicine at CHN supports a wide range of patients, from seniors striving to maintain independence to workers recovering from on-the-job injuries, to dancers, students, and weekend warriors eager to return to doing what they love.
“In my work, I’ve seen how something as simple as an injury can disrupt daily life,” said Dr. Edward Hennis, of Community Health Net. “Sports Medicine at CHN is about restoring confidence and helping people move forward with strength at every stage of life.”
Beyond his clinical role, Curt Cardman brings a deeply personal connection to resilience and athletic performances as a head wrestling coach at Girard School District and an Ironman triathlete who overcame a rare stroke, embodying the healing potential of sports medicine.
“As a physical therapist and lifelong athlete, I’ve seen firsthand how the right care can help people of all ages recover and thrive,” said Curt Cardman, MPT of FYZICAL Therapy & Balance. “I’m honored to share how sports medicine can make a difference.”
The luncheon is part of a series of activities celebrating CHN’s 40th Anniversary year, highlighting the organization’s history and investments in the future of healthcare for the community.
